The midwest is really the best when it comes to Autumn. When Fall arrives you can feel it in more ways than the fresh crisp temperature...it's a coziness, a beautiful shift of nature that involves bright colors of leaves, ripe apples and pumpkins, and the dimming of sunlight. Of course the unfortunate trade-off comes in January and February when the Midwest is the sh*ttiest place to be. But I've learned after living here for three years, there's plenty of time to cuss winter. For now, while Autumn stretches its arms to wrap the maples, elms, birch, and oak trees in a quilt of colors and while colder breezes invite us to snuggle scarves around our necks, we welcome the new season and appreciate it for all it's creativity and importance.
One way the Midwest takes the proverbial cake in Autumn is its corn mazes. Dave took the boys and me to our very first corn maze. I loved it and the boys too....well, aside from a slight meltdown when David Tre realized we had been walking in circles and were lost somewhere in the middle. Then our five year old collapsed down in the middle of path wailing and crying about how he knew we'd never get out and we would have to sleep and eat there forever. To which my amused hubby replied "what would we eat, Dave? Corn??" I laughed. David Tre only cried louder. Eventually we cheered him up and walked on and even found our way out.
