Sleeping Like a King

We are having absolutely zero problems at night these days. Davey consistantly sleeps all through the night. Last night I bathed him, which he loves, then nursed him, read him a book, rocked him and laid him in his crib. He was sound asleep by 8:30. The next time he woke up was 8:15 this morning. Fantastic isn't it! Now the only person getting poor sleep in this house is big Dave  :)  He's the shleeeepy one around here.
Here are pictures of the babyman enjoying his Fugi apple puree this morning.
It's hard to see but he has apple bits hanging from his chin.

Yummy  :)

I still can't decide who he looks more like, David or me.

First Solid Foods...Mastering the Art of Eating

I am going to town on our blog today. Everybody in the house is napping... the hubs in our bed, Davey in his crib, and Rocco and Miss Willow are passed out on the floor next to me. Which means Mommy gets to entertain Mommy. I could finish the Christmas decor or brag more - I mean blog more - about our handsome son. So, more blogging it is!
Something I've been a bit anxious about is starting Davey on solid foods. Per expert advice, he's only had breastmilk up until now. I've been nursing him for more than 5 months. For me, breastfeeding our son has been totally and completely rewarding. I can say that, now that I have less than a month til I switch him to bottles and solid foods. But back when he nursed every 2 hours, night and day, caused me headaches, chest aches, dehydration and fatigue, not too mention the fact that he had a serious preference for the left one and fought tooth and nail when nursing from the right, I was very close to giving up. I'm overjoyed that I stuck with it. But now we're moving into a new phase with the kiddo and I've been somewhat apprehensive about starting solids. Last week, we took the plunge. At least once a day now, it's all about purees and soft heat-detecting spoons.
I have committed to making his baby food...fruit and veggie purees, mushed bananas and avocados. It's easy, healthier for him, and saves us moolah... win-win-win. Avocado has been a hit. Bananas not so much. He makes a cringey face and spits it all out...I think his Daddy had a banana talk with him. The apple purees go down very easily... he loves sweet Fugi Apples! Later this week we're going to try sweet potatoes. I'll let ya know how he likes it.
It's been a lot of fun watching him figure out the purpose of a spoon. He's tried to lick the food off it. Bib, clothes, hands, tray, face, everything wears his food when he's eating. Here are a few pics... worth a good giggle.
His first time sitting in his high chair...

We played a little so he would be comfortable.

Then, the moment of truth...

and there it is, folks. Mushed bananas with milk... not a big hit.

More protests.
Don't remember what he's eating here, prob apple puree since he's happy.

Not a big fan of the spoon.

He is definitely wearing more food than he swallowed.

Davey's First Thanksgiving

We drove to Corpus Chrsiti early Thanksgiving morning...

to see Davey's Grampa...

Great Gram...

Great Grampa...

who Davey adorably napped on...

and his Great Aunt Kathy.

Let's play catch...up

A few things have changed in our house since the Babyman was born. Baby toys, books and entertainers are scattered about, you'll find more dust (my cleaning commitment has taken a hit), and I have become a woman obsessed. I panic if I don't have means to a camera every minute. That may be a little exaggerated but you get the point. Poor Davey's infanthood is probably haunted by a bright flash. I take pictures of that kid like a one-woman paparazzi. David makes fun of me for it, but I cannot be cured. I'm an insanely proud Mommy and I need every snapshot... you never know when you might need that one picture from that one angle that captures that one particular face he makes. So, I'll share my new hobby by posting my fav pics of the little man.... all 5,354,486 of them.
Before D3, David and I thought "motor skills" applied to NASCAR drivers. Now, we're watching for and analyzing the slightest motor skill victories in our son. His accomplishments, so far, include: rolling over back to tummy and vice versa; accurately reaching for and grabbing toys, cell phones, remote controls, and Mommy's hair. He can manage world-class head control, sit up supported, eat from a spoon; and just yesterday... wave. It wasn't precisely a hand wave, but he gave it a valiant effort. He responded to Mommy and Daddy's arm waving by raising his right arm up in the air and smiling like a champ. And this was no fluke...he "waved" 3 different times. He also responds to his name 40% of the time.
More on the eating skills later... the David who brings home the bacon just pulled into the driveway and I want to hug my hubs.

Stickin to the Blog

Friends, I'm going to do my best to contribute to our blog. My blogging performance up until now has been pretty poor, but I plan to change that. The Babyman, as we affectionately call him often, is now 5 months old. He is amazing...more on that later. Right now, I'm proclaiming my commitment to this blog. I will be regularly writing about the brilliant baby who is sleeping soundly in the next room. I may not blog everyday...hell, I don't shower everyday. But check back, let's say weekly, because my goal is to keep you enlightened on this beautiful baby boy, Davey James III.
