Fun in Corpus Christi

The day after we returned from Tulsa, we drove to Corpus Christi to see Davey's Grampa, Great Grampa & Gram, Aunt Kathy and Jim. Family friends, Jack and Brenda Sawyer, also stopped by to see the little man. As you can see, Davey had a blast with everyone. Here are some pics of the fun...

4 flights in 30 hours

Here we are at the airport in Tulsa. When I took this picture, I had no clue what was about to come. I'll back up and explain why we took a quick trip to Oklahoma. I was blessed to get another job shooting commercials for a car dealership. Since Davey is still nursing, he came with. So our first flight was a breeze! Davey slept the entire flight! The woman and man in our row thought he was an angel. (I'd have to agree.) Second flight was Dallas to Tulsa... uncomfortable but Davey was great again. We were one of the last to board so we had to sit between two people. It was a squeeze but Davey adored the older woman next to us. She made him laugh for like 10 minutes straight. Now we get to this moment. 24 hours after we flew into Tulsa we're back at the airport again ready to fly home. Tulsa to Dallas was interesting and a bit of a struggle. Davey was fussy. There were a few minutes of screaming and lots of crying but he eventually fell asleep. We sat next to a nice man who encouraged me to have 3 kids and a teenage boy who couldn't stop talking about how much he loved Rihanna. The fourth flight, Dallas to SA, was WOW. I can't blame my son for acting the way he did... it was the end of a very fast-paced, exhausting two days, but I'm pretty sure Southwest Airlines wants to ban me and him from future flights. This poor child was miserable the entire time. He started screaming at take-off and didn't stop until we touched ground. I knew people around me must've been annoyed and that was confirmed when the lights came on and nearly every male deboarding the plane shot me a dirty look. I wanted to say 'Really? You think I encouraged him to act like this?' I seriously tried everything I could think of to calm him down... toys, food, drink, rocking, singing, even the nice guy next to me tried distracting Davey with his cell phone. That 50 minute flight felt like 2 weeks to me. I even asked the flight attendant if I could walk Davey up and down the aisle, I knew that would work but the flight attendant said the seatbelt sign was on so no, but he volunteered to do it. I second-guessed myself as I handed Davey over but I was a desperate Mommy. Davey did stop screaming for a minute and the other passengers were clearly happy something had been done to silence the kid. At this point, the female flight attendant asked me if there was anything I needed and I said 'Vodka'. She said she'd happily get me some. I said I was just kidding. She said 'you sure? It's on-the-house!" Oh so tempting. I figured I couldn't calm my son down and I'd just handed him over to a complete stranger, my mothering skills were in question enough. I declined the vodka and went back to apologizing to the nice guy sitting in our row. He was headed to Vegas for the weekend. One thing I'm certain he won't do in Vegas is wind up at a chapel to get married. In fact, he probably signed up for a vasectomy when he got off the plane.

Blog Design

If you visit our blog regularly, you've probably noticed the design has changed several times recently. It seems the cool template designs that I find online have some sort of glitches. The most recent problem was being able to post comments. Since I love hearing from you and couldn't... I had to change the blog design again. So let's give this one a try. And please feel free to comment, if it works. I always enjoy reading your thoughts!

7 Months Old!

Today our newborn baby isn't so much anymore. Davey is turning seven months old and I'm having a hard time believing it. Seven month old babies begin to understand grown-up talk and they start picking up pieces of food to feed themselves. And they can have a conversation while playing in the bathtub (for proof see video). It's unbelievable to me that our son is becoming a little boy. Seems like no time has passed since June 24th. Time is sailing. I guess that's what happens when you're enjoying the coolest little person you've ever known.
Davey's "talking" has been vowel sounds mostly, but yesterday he discovered a new "word" and he's practicing it nonstop.

Dog-gone Good Kisser

So as you may've read, Rocco and Davey are becoming buds. Every morning after breakfast we sit on the living room floor and play. Well, it's supposed to be just Davey and me playing, but Rocco insists on joining us. As soon as Davey and I sit down, Rocco runs and grabs a toy, plops it down right next to Davey, and here's what usually happens next...

Skipping bottles

In the battle over the bottle, the score is: Mommy zero, Davey alot. He absolutely hates bottles. I know what you are thinking... 'have someone else give him a bottle and he'll take it.' Good advice but it doesn't work on this child. Not anymore. He's old enough to see through the tricks. He has bigger strategies mastered... like refusing to eat for hours.
I thought I was weaning our son at six months. He's nearly seven months now and still nurses, but that's ok. After stressing about it and having a good long talk with my hubby, who joins our doctors in being very supportive of breastfeeding, I've decided to keep going, and I feel good about that. Although the clock is ticking. Especially since the two-toothed little boy bit me the other day. That's right, he clamped down on my lefty. I screamed. It hurt like hell but was more shocking than anything. Don't bite the boob that feeds ya, kid.
So we're going to bypass bottles and move straight on to sippy cups. He's getting the hang of them. Right now we just drink water from them. No juices or formulas. But some day soon, the Mommy milk factory will be closed and then it's Sippy Cup or Bust! ...wait, maybe I should reword that.
So we'll see. My child definitely has willpower. I'm ok with that. Willpower is a quality I admire. (Remind me I said that when he's 2 years old and acting like it.)

TWO TEETH!

We have another tooth poking through! The bottom front right tooth just broke the gum today. Beware too... this child loves putting other people's fingers in his mouth and these teeth may look innocent but they feel sharper than kitchen knives.

Becoming Buddies

Davey is trying to talk to our dogs, Rocco and Miss Willow. He'll look at them, whether they're sleeping or not, and make all sorts of squeals and sounds their way. In the mornings, Rocco picks up on Davey's and my playfulness and Rocco tries joining our fun. After I've fed Davey breakfast in his high chair, we play on the floor. Rocco then, very frisky, pulls out all his dog toys and plays with them right next to Davey. It's adorable and a little scary at the same time. Have you ever seen Rocco's nails? They're ridiculously long, even though David cuts them regularly. I worry that Rocco will playfully paw at Davey one of these days and accidentally hurt him. So I'm keeping a very close watch. But it's quite clear that the dogs and the babyman are building a friendship.

Our Little Inchworm

So Davey isn't crawling yet, but he's on the brink. He gets up on his knees and elbows and rocks back and forth. He tries pushing off with his feet and legs, but right now he isn't covering any ground that way. So he's developed a way of transportation that we like to call the inchworm. If he spots something a few feet away and wants it... he'll get there by stretching out his arms and pulling his little body toward it. After 2 or 3 big pulls, he's there, object in hand, mission accomplished. Now, getting him to do this takes craftiness on our part. You see it takes alot of focus and determination for the babyman to commit to inchworming toward an object; so most of his been-there-played-with-that toys do not entice him enough. Mommy has discovered, however, when you put a cell phone, remote control, or a camera within his sight, he'll inchworm all day to get to them.

Oklahoma!

This past week Dave, Davey and I drove to Ardmore, Oklahoma. I was shooting commercials for a car dealership and we spent a day visiting with friends and family. Davey came face-to-face with a horse, a wild hog, and a Mexican turkey. Don't worry, two of those animals were stuffed. Davey spent time with his Godparent Terry who is affectionately known as "T" to little Davey, his wife Belinda, and Clariece and Doug. "T" has a trophy room we like to refer to as the Man Cave. This is where Davey met a few interesting species, as you'll see in the pictures. Also, Davey had a fun time hanging out at Clariece and Doug's house. Great Grandma Clariece introduced Davey to a toy that provided endless entertainment... to my surprise. Who knew all it took was a plain jane kitchen utensil?

Davey LOVED this spoon!
And to think of all the $ we've spent on fancy toys.
