Because reading rocks

This is one of my fave times of our day.... for one, I'm really tired by bedtime and ready for some ME time, but I love when these two cuties are clean and cuddled up and winding down with books. Davey reads all by himself and often reads a book or two to little bro if I'm showering. Oakley enjoys looking at the pictures if brother reads alone. We've been rocking it this summer on reading. We finished a 300 page James Patterson kid's book called House of Robots which Davey LOVED. Oak was like whatever about it. We've polished off about a dozen smaller library books too. I hope we keep this up all summer...would be great for Davey's start to second grade.

When you're racing brother and trying so hard to beat him and your legs just won't cooperate. So you fall flat on your face. But when you're Oakley, you're super tough and you get up and laugh it off and race again 😊

It's holiday cookie time!!

Lunch date

I was the mystery reader this week in Davey's class. Afterwards Davey so sweetly invited me to sit with him at lunch... how could a girl refuse ?? So here we are sitting together in his cafeteria while he chows down on a banana. I so love this big boy of mine.

Tiny dancer

My little grocery shopping buddy is doing a jig. Kroger just stocked kid-sized shopping carts and Oaks is having a ball. He loves being here now! He's helping me! I'm not frustrated or frazzled or freaking losing my patience with him. Thank you Kroger. Thank you.

Autumn fun

Fall is here...and so are T and B! We took them to a pumpkin patch, corn maze, family fun farm with all kinds of exciting things like bunny petting, duck races, corn cob blasting air guns (Oakley hit the Donald Trump target three times. I'm not saying it was a political choice...just that he aimed with some consistency). This cool old tractor seemed like a great spot for a photo with T and B!

Fire Chief Oak

Oaks here says always remember to Stop Drop and Roll... for fire safety. His teacher told me when the show and tell firefighters asked for a volunteer, the whole class was shy but Oaks here raised his hand up high. He was picked and got to stand up in front of everyone and help demonstrate stop drop and roll.

No posing here

Little brother just walked up to Davey sitting down...he sat down beside him and lifted his little arm around big brother's back and laid his head against his shoulder. And then my heart swelled with SOO much love.

He LOVES LOVES school

His teachers tell me he is "soooo ready for school". They say he listens well and follows directions. They say he's like a "little man". I look at this picture and I see a most beautiful energy shining through that happy face. So proud to get to be his mommy.

Paddling in DC

Little weekend family vacay in Washington DC. We've seen some cool places and amazing sites like what's behind us here... the Washington Monument. Also went inside the White House, Smithsonian, Holocaust Museum, and walked through Georgetown and The Hill neighborhood. Ate at a few terrific restaurants too. Tomorrow we're touring the Capitol and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, and if we have time and the boys aren't melting down we want to see inside the Library of Congress before heading back to Ohio.

Oak goes to school!

First day of school for our handsome littlest guy!!! He's attending a preschool program for 3 year olds. He was super happy to get to go! All smiles this morning! It was the best first day of school. I'm really happy for him to get to enjoy this new experience and get challenged in different ways. Could he be any cuter? He melts me. P.S. he picked out his red shoes

Special visitors...

Auntie Muzz and Uncle Gene drove from Chicago to see the boys and hang with us for Labor Day weekend. Having a fun time!

Take me out to the...

Ballgame! Well our baseball game got rained out but we had fun thru 7 innings. Came to celebrate our big littlest guy who's turning 3! He also requested a baseball cake which we'll enjoy tomorrow on his actual bday. Three years of the biggest personality and being a major cute ham...this boy did the impossible: made our little fam even better!!
